Malice Continues: A Role-Playing Game with a Dark Souls Feel

“Malice Continues” is a role-playing game created by MoonStudios, the developer behind the popular “Ori” series. This time around, players take on the role of the enigmatic Selim, tasked with cleaning up this sin-infested land and reforming the kingdom’s destiny. The story unfolds in the kingdom during the year 841, where the kingdom’s king has just passed away, leaving his son to inherit the throne. The plague, however, has begun to ravage the kingdom, making it a harsh setting for the game. The map of the game was personally designed by the developers, ensuring no random generation process was involved. Each weapon in the game has a unique design and exclusive stance, which can be optimized through various services. The game also allows players to customize their characters’ appearance, outfit them with different quality equipment, and offers a weak class system.

Unlike other fast-paced hack-and-kill games, “Malice Continues” is more akin to Dark Souls. Players need to be well-planned and thoughtful to survive each battle. The key to survival is to seize any opportunities to attack, parry, dodge, and engage enemies head-on. The continuous rain and wind-swept leaves on the seashore give the impression of a pirate story, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the game’s plot. The game’s unique visual style imbues the game’s world with a distinctive character, making it appear more vivid and realistic.

The game is played in a similar fashion to most action RPGs. Players need to smash every bucket along the way, kill all the ghosts and snakes they encounter along the way, and strive to accumulate from nothing to small success. Although the enemies you encounter at first pose little threat, you will soon be taught a valuable lesson by an enemy named “The Risen”, marking the beginning of your journey of suffering.

In “Malice Continues”, endurance management is crucial, as dodging too often can leave you unable to move or attack. Skills learned in games like “Soul” need to be fully utilized in combat. Each enemy is extremely dangerous, and when you grind them into flesh, you can reap supreme satisfaction and rewards. After death, the player will be reborn at the nearest “Cerim Whisper” point, and health points will be restored. Dead enemies are no longer resurrected, and wounded enemies are still wounded. In addition, these “Cerim Whispers” will also recharge your health points when you activate them.

The map system in this game is quite convenient, allowing players to easily locate their next target and navigate each area with ease. After leveling up, players can earn skill points, and the classic action RPG-style inventory management should make most players feel right at home. Players can also interact with NPCs and do business with merchants. The feeling of exploring the game’s world, with its lifelike art style and hand-drawn paintings, feels like you’re embarking on an adventure long before you even opened the game.

Overall, “Malice Continues” is a game with extremely high risks, but the rewards are equally generous. Although the difficulty level is quite high, as long as players are willing to try patiently, I believe they will eventually get a full sense of achievement from the game.
